Ministry of SIM
Making disciples through sports

Do you have an interest in discipling young people, and reaching out to our local community? Sports Friends is a discipleship ministry that uses the platform of sports to reach youth. Sports Friends/SIM will be running soccer camps at the end of July and mid-August. We need people who love sports, but also people who love kids. You do not have to be athletic to be involved -- there are many roles to fill.

Online training for volunteers is on these dates:

- Saturday June 5, 8:30-11:30 a.m.
- Saturday June 12, 8:30-11:30 a.m.
- Saturday June 19, 8:30-11:30 a.m.

On-field, in-person training:

- Saturday July 10, 8:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.
- Saturday July 17, 8:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.

Soccer camps:
- July -- week of July 26-30, mornings only; Friday ends with a barbeque
- August -- week of Aug 9-13; Friday ends with a barbeque

Is the COVID vaccine the mark of the beast?

Do you have questions about whether or not you should take the COVID-19 vaccine as a Christian? Concerned about social media posts that link the vaccine to the sign of the anti-Christ? To help you navigate these and other questions, we are sharing these short videos from a helpful website developed by several churches and Christian organizations, in partnership with the U.S. National Association of Evangelicals.

While respecting that these are personal choices that no one can make for you, we encourage Cedar Grove members seeking Biblical guidance to use this resource in making their own informed and Scripture-based decisions about the vaccine and COVID.

The Bible vs. Science?

Common evangelical concerns addressed by Christian scientist and one of the world’s top experts on the COVID-19 vaccines, Dr. Francis Collins (8:42 mins.)

Ethics of rolling up your sleeve

Questions about the Biblical morality of taking the COVID vaccine, answered by Christian ethics expert Dr. Jim Denison (5:03 mins.)

Jesus and the vaccine

An evangelical pastor, Dr. Robert Jeffress, explains how the example of Jesus can help church members make decisions about the vaccines (6.52 mins.)

COVID, politics and the Bible

Pro-life, pro-vaccine

Bible teacher and former pastor Dr. Curtis Chang looks into whether it’s Biblically consistent to be against abortion and still take the vaccine (12:58 mins)

Discerning fake COVID information

Bible teacher and former pastor Dr. Curtis Chang explains how Christians can spot fake news about the vaccine. (8:07 mins)

Every serious believer longs to summon up the kind of boldness and faith that can stand firm on Mount Carmel and pray down heaven into impossible situations. Yet few are willing to go through the process required to get them there. Strength of faith, character, and boldness can only be shaped in the hidden fires of silence, sameness, solitude, and adversity. Those who patiently wait on God in the darkness emerge with their holy loyalty cemented, their courage emblazoned, and their confident belief in Him set afire.

Join Priscilla Shirer on this 7-session journey through the life and times of the prophet Elijah to discover how the fire on Mount Carmel was forged in the valley of famine. And how the emboldened, fiery faith you desire is being fashioned by God in your life right now.

Cost is $20 for the workbook. After registering workbooks can be paid for and picked up at the Welcome Centre.
