It allows for more frequent discussion times and invites you to consider each topic or idea individually, at a pace that is comfortable for you. There is no focus on English language instruction.

The course includes talks on topics such as, "Who is Jesus”, "Why and How Should I Pray?" and "How Can I Be Sure of My Faith?" Cedar Grove Baptist Church
And its ESL Program

The Cedar Grove Baptist Church has provided a program to assist people whose mother tongue was not English for several years.
The program has evolved through several stages and currently provides English as a Secondary Language (ESL) in a two-prong approach.
The first is through ‘Talk Time’ classes provided several times a week, from 9:30 to 11:30 AM, and involves reading and discussion of articles published in ‘Our Daily Bread’ and other topics of interest to the students. This is not a beginner English program and requires a certain level of English proficiency.
The second is a Bible study and discussion program provided every Sunday from 9:00 to 10:30 AM.
Consideration is currently given to expand the program by adding the new ESOL Alpha program. Should there be sufficient interest, beginner English classes may also be started.

Objectives and Purpose:
The program is an outreach of the church to those whose mother tongue is not English.
The objective is to provide opportunities to improve English language skills to English Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL) and at the same time introduce non-Christians to Christianity and strengthen the faith of those who are Christians.

Program Results:
This is accomplished by discussing Christian and non-Christian literature in a classroom setting, and providing weekly Bible study sessions. The progression is both ways, Christian students who attended the Talk Time classroom sessions, then started to attend Bible study sessions. Students who attended Bible study sessions, but whose English language skills were limited, have been referred to the ‘Talk Time’ program. Several students, over the years, have also started to attend regular church services.

A number of students attending Talk Time classroom sessions are non-Christians, but through non-threatening discussions using Christian literature, have become familiar with Christian culture.

It should be understood that a large portion of ESL students are transient and may only be in Canada for a limited time.
