ABOUT THE CEDAR GROVE PRAYER MINISTRY
1. WHY DO WE NEED PRAYER MINISTRY?
It is God’s ultimate desire that His Church be a House of Prayer (Isaiah 56:7; Matthew 21:12-13). The Prayer Ministry’s activities and programs support the fulfilment of this purpose at Cedar Grove so that we can all realize the call to “pray in the Spirit on all occasions with all kinds of prayers and requests” (Eph. 6:18). We want to encourage increased expectation of the miraculous across Cedar Grove and motivate each other to grow our faith in a prayer answering God!
2. WHAT DOES THE PRAYER MINISTRY DO?
The prayer ministry’s activities involve intercession, ministration, and edification.
Intercession: We engage in prayer for the church and its ministries, including the pastors and leadership team. This also involves praying for the needs of church members, including Next Step prayer requests. We also pray for local and global concerns.
Ministration: We have a group, known as Prayer Partners, who pray directly with church members through hands-on prayer. Ministration prayer takes place during Sunday services (when there is an altar call, or on request by church members), during weekday meetings (as part of Wednesday Family Night), or at special church events.
Edification: One of our goals is to build a praying/prayerful church, because when the whole church prays, the Body of Christ is strengthened spiritually. Through teachings on prayer and church-wide prayer activities, we can all grow together in our prayer lives.
3. HOW CAN I BE INVOLVED?
The Prayer Ministry is not just for a small group of “prayer specialists” because all God’s saints are called to pray without ceasing! While there are those who may be more actively involved (core ministry members), we have opportunities for everyone in the church to be involved in prayer on Wednesdays.
Ways to be engaged:
a. Prayer Partners
Prayer Partners are core members of the prayer ministry and you can identify them by their name tags on Sundays. Their role is to pray directly with church members and visitors during Sunday services, on Wednesdays as part of Family Night, and at other special events.
b. Prayer Warriors
Prayer Warriors are also a core part of the prayer ministry, but usually do not minister directly to others in person, such as during altar calls. Rather, they join in praying for Cedar Grove, members, and other needs at our weekly Wednesday meetings. Prayer Warriors also intercede for church members through prayer requests received by email.
c. Family Night Drop In
The WHOLE CHURCH is welcome to join us during Family Night each Wednesday for worship, teachings on prayer, intercession as a Body, and one-on-one prayer ministration (bring your specific prayer requests so that we can believe God with for answers!)
If you’d like to be involved in any way in the prayer ministry, if you have questions, or if would like to request prayer, contact us by emailing firstname.lastname@example.org.
Confidentiality is a high priority commitment of all Prayer Partners and the Engage Prayer Ministry.
7 Scriptures about the power of prayer
“Ask, and it will be given to you seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you.”
“And whatever you ask in prayer, you will receive, if you have faith.”
“Therefore I tell you, whatever you ask in prayer, believe that you have received it, and it will be yours.”
“Whatever you ask in my name, this I will do, that the Father may be glorified in the Son. If you ask me anything in my name, I will do it.”
Is anyone among you sick? Let him call for the elders of the church, and let them pray over him, anointing him with oil in the name of the Lord. And the prayer of faith will save the one who is sick, and the Lord will raise him up. …The prayer of a righteous person has great power as it is working.
...praying at all times in the Spirit, with all prayer and supplication. To that end keep alert with all perseverance, making supplication for all the saints.
Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.
